The first computer virus was discovered in the 70s, named Creeper. Mainframe computers were prevalent in the 70s, so this virus used to infect mainframes.

Many types of research were done to remove this virus and eventually Ray Tomlinson created the first antivirus named The Reaper in the late 80s which was designed to destroy the creeper virus.

As the Internet became popular and the number of computers increased, after the Creeper virus was discovery many types of viruses started coming in the computer and the number of viruses increased.
In view of the increasing prevalence of viruses, Andreas Luning and Kai Fezzi created the first antivirus product called Virus Scan and the company that made this antivirus was McAfee.

After this, gradually the number of companies making antivirus increased and in today’s time there are many companies making advanced antivirus in the market.
